The Marine and Harbours Building was constructed in 1979 for a State Government department that oversaw shipping permits and customs-related work. It remained vacant for 20 years before Kite Projects purchased it to renovate and refurbish as a retro boutique hotel, as part of the Dock One masterplan.
With its deep-rooted history of migration and maritime trade, Port Adelaide is now experiencing a dynamic resurgence. The area is transforming into a thriving hub of government, defence, and private sector investment. Businesses are recognising its potential, relocating to the precinct, driving new developments, and creating opportunities. A vibrant scene of bars, cafés, pubs, and retail shops are also continuing to emerge, breathing new life into the historic Port.
The Marine and Harbours Hotel will cater for increased numbers of tourists, visitors and corporate guests when it opens. The innovative accommodation will include 10 floating suites on the Port River, 150 guest rooms, restaurant, rooftop bar, conference facilities, food and beverage, and an open-air cinema.
